VAV & Free Community Tennis (Sundays during the school year; Saturdays in July and August)
Community Tennis is comprised of Volley Against Violence (VAV) and Free Community Tennis. VAV is a partnership with the Boston Police Department. It brings youth of all ages from all over Boston to Sportsmen’s for weekly, free tennis with Sportsmen’s coaches and Boston Police officers. The program takes place on Fridays from 6 PM to 8 PM. VAV began in 2009 with eight participants and one police volunteer and has grown tremendously in the years since. Today, we regularly have over 140 participants on any given Friday night. Through tennis, VAV empowers youth to develop important life skills both on and off the tennis court. Youth participants learn to work as a team, to set and achieve goals, to respect one another, to respect police officers and to resolve conflicts as well as learn the importance of making an effort and trying new things. Using a life skills curriculum that focuses on their emotional, cognitive and physical development, VAV helps participants to build the tools needed to address conflict and challenges in alternate ways.

Free Community Tennis
Every Sunday 3PM to 5PM
Youth & Adults  ages 5+

Free Community Tennis takes place every Sunday during the school year and on Saturdays during the months of July and August. It is another opportunity for youth to find a safe place to interact with one another and adults; and, for adults to attend, become physically active, and learn to play the sport of tennis at no charge.
