At Sportsmen’s, we strive to create an environment in which children take pride in their improvement, without focusing on winning a point or a game. We use simple drills with lesson-specific goals which develop solid strokes and muscle memory, so there is no need to worry about where a shot lands or even if it makes it over the net. As children advance, we want them to ‘think’ tennis, and not just ‘play’ tennis, so that they are beginning to think about where and how to hit the ball each time, instead of simply drilling balls aimlessly over the net. All of this occurs in a games based approach which makes learning fun and not at all threatening. Tennis is a lifelong sport, but only if a child likes it enough to stay in the game!
